Hey are you going to Young women’s tonight?

#2
Yea are you?

#3
Probably not. I don’t really want to go tonight. Do you remember what the mutual theme is this year?

#2:
Yeah, it’s in D&C 115:5 “Arise and Shine Forth, that thy light may be a standard to the nations.”

#3
What’s that supposed to mean. I don’t see how that can relate to us here in Mission Texas. How are we supposed to be a light and standard to the nations?

#2
Well, just think of the 7 young women values, if we follow them, they will all help us to Arise and shine and be a standard to help people.

Girl #1:
Here are the YW Values, if we follow them, they can help us be a lighthouse to others to help guide them to the knowledge of our Savior and His Church, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

(have the other girls recite the value meanings and while doing they can put together a puzzle of a lighthouse made out of posterboards, each piece labeled with the value they define.)

Faith:tI am a daughter of Heavenly Father, who loves me. I have faith in His eternal plan which centers on Jesus Christ, my Savior.
Divine Nature:

I still don’t really see what it means.

#1:
Hey, do you guys have that church thing AGAIN this Wednesday night?

#2
Yeah, do you want to come, I think we’re learning how to dip chocolates or something like that.

#1
Man, why do you even go to that, there are so many other things like homework and friends and LOST, isn’t that on Wednesday nights as well. Why don’t you just skip it?

#2
Yea, there’s lots to do, but this is an opportunity for me to get to do things I may not normally do and the girls in my ward are really cool, they go to all different schools so it’s one of the only times I hang out with them other then on Sunday. Besides, I also get to work on my Personal Progress.

#1
What’s that?

#4
Have you heard of Boy Scouts? We’ll it’s similar to that. We work on accomplishing goals that help us grow spiritually, develop talents and prepare for future roles as mothers, wives, and leaders in the church and community. We use certain values to help us understand more fully who we are, why we are on the earth, and what we should be doing. Once we’ve completed, we receive a certificate and a medallion, like Nancy and Norma over there (If you have any girls who have already recieved there’s have them wear them), they have both completed their personal progress and wear their medallions.

#1
Wow, those are really cool. You said that it helps you learn who we are? Well who are we?

All:
Recite YW Theme

Oh, I see. What’s that necklace you’re wearing say? “Stand for Truth and Righteousness.” What’s that?

(Have a poster of the logo and motto and a girl wearing the necklace)

#2
Oh that’s our Young Women Motto. The logo is a torch surrounded by the young women motto “stand for truth and righteousness.” The torch represents the light of Christ, inviting all to “come unto Christ” It invites all young women to hold up the light of Christ by keeping His commandments.

#1
Wow, that sounds like a really neat program you guys have organized. Do you think it would be alright if I came, just to see what it’s like? I guess I can always record LOST.

#2 and #4
Of course, everyone would love to have you there. I’ll pick you up at 6:45.

(#1 girl, Non-member, walks away)

I guess what just happened is a perfect example of how we can “Arise and Shine forth, that we may be a standard for the nations.”

Special Musical Number by all Young Women. Either Hymn #335 or one of the songs from the Arise and Shine forth program. You can purchase battery operated tea lights at afloral.com and have the girls hold them cupped in their hands or buy little laterns at the dollar store to put them in. Dim the lights in the gym.
