Apple Fest
These activity ideas for a fun activity using apples as the theme are compiled from a post on the lds-youngwomen Yahoo Group:
Apple Seed Spitting Contest – see who can project apple seeds the farthest or with the most accuracy
Make Caramel Apples – stick a wooden popsicle stick in the core of an unpeeled apple. Melt some caramel and dip the apples. Let them cool on wax paper and enjoy!
Bob for Apples – fill a big basin or washtub about 2/3 full of water. Put in several apples (they’ll float), but not so many that the apples make 2 layers in the water. Give people a time limit to grab an apple in their teeth.
Apple Bowling – set up some 1 liter bottles partially filled with water in a pyramid shape. Stand back about 15-22 feet, and try to knock over the bottles by rolling an apple at the bottles. Can be done in teams or individually. The winner is the person who knocks down the most bottles in 10 (or however many) rounds.
Apple Carving – Carve apples into fun shapes. You can define a theme like “Prophets” or “Scriptures” or “Autumn”.
Apple Stamping – cut chunks of apples into simple shapes, like triangles or squares. Dip them in paint, and make pictures. You can make apple crafts too — cut an apple in half, so that the apple core shows through. Use the shape of the apple to decorate pillows, paper or canvas bags, aprons, jackets, sweatshirts, or anything you like. See an example here
Apple Paring Contest – using a potato peeler or a knife, see who can make the longest unbroken strip of apple skin.
Apple Animals – Using gum drops, red hots, Bugles chips, marshmallows, or any other fun treats, create apple animals. Treats can be attached with frosting, peanut butter, or toothpicks.
Apple Treats
Apples with Worms – Use an apple corer to remove the core from an apple. Fill the hole 2/3 full with peanut butter, and insert a gummy worm in the peanut butter, with part of the gummy worm hanging over the side of the apple.
