What’s In Your Backpack?

I printed clipart of a backpack on 8 1/2 by 11 paper, and cut them out. I then glued them to the paper sacks. I used ribbon ( paper will also work ) to creat straps on the opposite side to form my back pack.

We gathered at a leader’s home and watched What’s In Your Backpack by John Bytheway.

Inside each packback I placed rocks with sins and transgressions written on them. I ask them to look at each one and to remember that can repent and cast away the stones through the atonement.
Since I’m doing this the first week of school, I tell the girls that everyone needs to think about what’s in their backpack this year. I then hand out quotes from the president’s of the church and other famous people and also a copy of the story about the Indian boy told in the video of John Bytheway.
I tell them to pull one out each day and read it for the next month.

I then hand out gum with the “chews the right” label, a mini flashlight with a scipture about the light of Christ, a mini compass with a scripture about stayingon the path, an eraser to remind them that Jesus can erase our sins, and hershey’s hugs and kisses, a small mirror to remind themselves to ask if they see what Jesus sees when they look in the mirror.

I change out the items and scriptures depending on who I’m teaching.
